How's life today? Is it awesome? Boring? Or maybe it's utterly frustrating? How ever it's going, I'm pretty sure that we've gone through one adaptive and troubling, yet common obstacle - stress. Stress can manifest from places we do and don't expect. However, we do deal with it and eventually overcome it through different ways of relief; for example, artist blurt out their frustrations through art or rather "walk and talk" about them.
Artists have different ways of expressing their frustrations and stress, then drilling right through them. Being an artist myself, I tend to do the same. A personal example of this is how my art class helped me find my middle ground to pass my US History class. My academic was affecting my personal life; as a result, I ended up hurting myself in less subtle ways. In the end, I realized my mistake and gained an advantage.
I enjoyed my Drawing II class because it was my anchor in school: it kept me calm throughout the day, despite dealing with everything else afterwards. However, I was failing my US History class and was on the verge of getting it cut from my schedule. I went the whole nine yards to get my grade up: go to tutorials, rewritten my notes, and asking questions when needed. It didn't work - or did it. While I was discouraged at the little progress, I've come to a realization that has been right in front of me this whole time.
At my last tutorial session, I answered as many questions as I could on Kahoot (check out the website, it helps)! Out of 85 students, I place 16th or 17th place the first round and 5th place the second round. I even placed 1st for a few seconds in the middle of the second round. Afterwards, Ms. Barnes came up to me and helped me to realize that my main problem was that I needed to trust myself and relax. This was not only the case with my academic life, but also my personal life. At that time, a crippling weight was lifted off my shoulders.
Art can help release emotions and thoughts pushed to the back of my mind. It can also encourage individuals to overcome their troubles and feel victorious. Stress is one of the most degrading attributes of life, but it builds to become stronger makes us better people. Don't be discouraged. the art to overcome is within you because you have access to greatness.
